College Football Final Ramblings

SO the mighty Utes finished #2 in the AP Poll, with 16 first place votes and #4 in the USA Today/Coaches Poll with 1 first place vote (from Kyle Whittingham). The coaches are obligated to vote for the winner of the BCS National Championship Game won by Florida in an unconvincing albeit effective victory over Oklahoma. (What do you call what Kyle did? He said he was "looking out for his players" but do you call that civil disobedience? poll disobedience? in any case good on ya coach). The Gators finished #1 in both polls. As a self admitted and absolute total Utah homer I am a little annoyed that there was not a split national championship, but the whole kit and kaboodle is mythical anyway and there is so much buzz about the college football post season that it really doesn't matter that they aren't #1 in the polls.

But to my main point: The Mountain West is really really good and really really deserving of a BCS automatic bid. The following: final ranking in the AP, wins versus final AP rankings (by ranking only); conference title winner in italics

Mountain West:

Utah: #2 - wins over #6, #7, #18, and #25
Texas Christian: #7 -wins over #11 and #25
Brigham Young: #25

=no automatic bid

Big East

Cincinnatti: #17 -win over #23
West Virginia #23

=automatic bid

ACC

Virginia Tech: #15 - win over #21
Florida State: #21

=automatic bid

Big 10

Penn State: #8 - wins over #9, #18, and #24
Ohio State: #9 - win over #24
Michigan State: #24

=automatic bid

I see a problem too.
